Does Calling on the spirits of the dead using the famous Ouija board, sound like something you planned to do, at least once? Most of us have always believed in the unknown and unseen world of spirits and ghosts. The answer to “Why do spirits exist?” is not a simple one, but “where can you feel them the most?” is what we en-devour to present. The places listed below have interesting stories that back up the paranormal activities witnessed in those areas.
1. Raj Kiran Hotel, Lonavala
In the room at the corner and behind the reception on the ground floor at Raj Kiran Hotel, has had incidents of supernatural activities. In the middle of the night, guests have reported their bed sheets being pulled while asleep and a sourceless spooky blue light at their feet. These people have gone through mental therapies after staying in that room. It is said that something really creepy goes-on inside the room during the nights which frightens the people. Ghostly apparitions keep floating in this room.
2. D’Souza Chawl, Mahim
There is this rumored well here, which is considered haunted. The well was quite dangerous as it did not have any boundary walls around it. One day, while filling water a woman fell in the well as the whole structure around the well collapsed. The lady struggled for quite a time and then died a painful death. People say that they’ve witnessed a woman lurking around the well and the nearby area.
3. Sanjay Gandhi National Park
Located on the northern fringes of Mumbai, this large protected area is usually where visitors go in search of wildlife.There are rumors however, that at night people see a phantom hitchhiker.
4. Tower of Silence, Malabar Hill
The Tower of Silence is actually a Parsi cemetery situated rather picturesquely on Malabar Hill in South Mumbai. Custom dictates that Parsis leave the bodies of their dead for vultures to feed on. The winding road that leads down the hill is particularly desolate and eerie at night and the place has become recognized as a kind of ghoulish hangout.
5. Mukesh Mills, Colaba
Shut down in 1980, this enormous abandoned mill in Colaba has been the shooting ground for numerous Bollywood films and advertisements. Deserted and rundown, Mukesh Mills is a ready-made set for horror films and Gothic shows, especially considering the mills are actually considered to be haunted. One television actress claimed to have had a particularly bad experience when one of her female co-stars suddenly began speaking in a manly voice, as if she were possessed, telling the crew to leave the premises immediately.
6. Grand Paradi Towers, Kemps Corner
On the eighth floor of the Grand Paradi Towers in Kemps Corner, a series of freakish suicides drew attention to what appeared to be a gruesome pattern of deaths and accidents in the building. In 2004 an elderly couple jumped out of the window of this apartment. Their children and their grandchild followed suit within the year. “There was something unacceptable to our rational minds that a whole family, three generations, living in one house should commit suicide in the same way," says a resident who has lived in the building for 30 years. "There have been up to 20 fatal accidents and suicides since the building was constructed in 1976. Many involving children and even a maid who either jumped or fell out of a window."

7. Marve and Madh Island Road
With mangroves on either side, a narrow strip of road, which leads to Marve and Madh Island is notorious for many automobile accidents. It's said that a lady in full bridal attire, seen especially on full moon nights, distracts the drivers, which leads to the mishaps. Dozens of uncharacteristic sightings have been reported, not only by locals, but by staff of beachfront hotels who return from late night shifts. The trick, they say, is to not look directly in to the mesmerizing eyes of the beautiful lady and to just ignore her. Legend has it that an unknown bride was brutally murdered on her wedding night and her body dumped in the isolated mangroves over 25 years ago. The spirit is apparently still on the lookout for the culprits.
8. SNDT Girls College, Juhu
In the backyard of SNDT, Girls College, Juhu are ruined structures, once used as staff toilets. Residents of the neighboring building swear that post 1.30 am, sounds of a teacher thrashing her students can be heard clearly.
"First the lessons start, and the teacher can be heard reciting mathematical tables, invariably followed by thrashing sounds and the wails of children. It's been practically heard by everyone in our building and goes on till the wee hours of the morning," alleged Riyaz Ansari, a local resident.
"Once, out of curiosity, we formed a group of 10 boys to investigate the phenomena, but found only an eerie emptiness. By the time we reached back home, the cries from the structure had restarted and no one has ever dared to venture out there again," added Riyaz.

9. Pawan Hans Quaters, Near Juhu
Close to the Pawan Hans quarters, near the Juhu aerodrome is a century old peepal tree, which residents claim is the home to a 20-year-old girl called Salma who poured kerosene and set herself ablaze for no apparent reason in 1989.
Her presence was so strongly felt that a resident called Anthony D'Souza, a devout Catholic, built a Hanuman mandir to protect residents from harm after he was apparently guided to do so in a dream. "On special nights, the girl can still be seen running, with her clothes still on fire and disappears into the tree," claimed Mehboob Sheikh, a local resident.
Her presence was so strongly felt that a resident called Anthony D'Souza, a devout Catholic, built a Hanuman mandir to protect residents from harm after he was apparently guided to do so in a dream. "On special nights, the girl can still be seen running, with her clothes still on fire and disappears into the tree," claimed Mehboob Sheikh, a local resident.
10. Nasserwanj Wadi, Near Mahim Railway Station
In less than a kilometer radius of the Mahim railway station, lies the dreaded Nasserwanj Wadi, where no local likes to venture after midnight. "Don't venture inside or you will get possessed. Don't expect any one from the area to come and help you," warned a group of ladies standing near the gate as this reporter approached the wadi (old settlement) compound.
Folklore has it that the property once belonged to a Parsi gentleman called Nasser, who was brutally burnt in a cabin close to a well inside the compound. "The gruesome murder was committed around 16 years ago, but the Parsi landlord still takes his daily stroll over here after midnight, keeping a watch on his property. He is known to torment anyone who crosses his path," alleged Francis, a resident.
11. Aarey Milk Colony, Goregaon
Established in 1949, Aarey Milk Colony is a vast area in Goregaon East with long stretches of gardens, nurseries and lakes. Picnickers frequent this milking estate on the weekend along with members of the film and ad industry who use it as a location for shoots.. Aarey Milk Colony is famous for its visits from various apparitions.
12. Kamathipura- Brothel no: 25, Near Grant Road
Kamathipura, which began its journey sometime in the late 1700s, used to be frequented by British soldiers. It was once known as Gully, where women were imported from European countries and even Japan. Today, some areas of the 14 gullies (lanes) that make up the red light district still have the Alexander theatre and British styled villa brothels — No 25, Colaba Queens, Hotel G-9, and 007. Over here, a prostitute of British era sometimes appears to startle potential customers at night.
13. Vrindavan Society, Thane
It is said that a man had committed suicide in one of the buildings in Vrindavan Society (Bldg. No.66 B). A security guard was apparently slapped by an unknown force but he got up from his chair and hit the other guard who was nearby him thinking he was the one who hit him.
